Lacking resonance

We say strange things to one another.

This morning, for instance:
there are some words I said to you then
I'd like now
to suck back into my mouth and bury beneath my tongue.

But I can't, and so
I suppose
what I'm doing instead is
just letting you know
that I don't like the tinny feel
those words left in the air between us.
